Cut the psycho-babble...it's a holiday.

Just a quick post. A friend of a friend posted on facebook today that today instead of "celebrating" like she used to, she will instead trust in Jesus...and then something along the lines of celebrating today hurts you soul or some shit...hold on now i feel the need to quote:

"Formerly, today I'd have "celebrated" this life (which ends in death) in a wordly, death-hastening way.....but now I can tell you- I have known the Lord, I am really living and I count all that fleeting "fun" as losses of the worst kind... and for any of you, my dear friends, who wake up today just go back to sleep.... please, come and see what REAL Life is all about #JesusChristnotmaryjane."

Alright. First of all, glad ya found Jesus and all...but you were a pothead. Don't forget your roots. The fact that she still observes the fact that it is 420 says a lot. No one forgets their favorite holidays. Shouldn't she be worried about that bigger holiday on Sunday...I dunno maybe the one that kind of STARTED the Christian religion? Why attack a day that doesn't even have it's own greeting cards?
Secondly, "fleeting fun as losses of the worst kind"? I wonder if her experience with the Plant (I might start typing it like that all the time capital letters and all...Jesus can't take up all the proper nouns) was any good at all, because I don't think she would feel as strongly against it had she enjoyed her time with it. True, people move on from things that don't fit their lifestyle anymore, but if the parting was "mutual" there can be no anger in looking back at it. I don't understand the judgmental tone. Exactly what part of today screams, Heathens!? If anything, today is a peaceful day, because most of the people who celebrate today are too lazy to do anything totally crazy.
Which leads me to comment also on "for any of you who wake up today, just go back to sleep" Look at the crowd your speaking to...of course we're going to go back to sleep, we're fucking potheads for crying out loud. I don't even know what that means. Then you invite us to see what REAL life is all about. Well, what is it about? For me, I think waking up everyday and living my life as a good person who works hard, cares for her family and friends, and enjoys life with or without the Plant is pretty real....but that's just me. I guess others might find that judging complete strangers on facebook and throwing Jesus in the mix is real...to each his own I guess.

As I was typing this, a few comments were posted on her link...first, my idiot friend who starts fights with anyone remotely religious, with his anti-religious psychobabble. Then I guess one of her friends with some non-intelligible gunk about how Jesus is the way...blah blah blah. It really doesn't even make sense to be honest. Like, at all....It's just Jesus this and Trust in Him that without any complete thought thrown in whatsoever. My friend may be a pushy non-believer, but wtf is that? It's not even complete sentences. And this is what makes me most mad, that some stupid debate over Jesus and drugs is going to happen over facebook. WHOOOO CAAARRREEESSSSS?!

My final thought on the whole thing? If you choose to follow Jesus, Buddah, Allah, flying spaghetti monster, whatever...that is your choice. It is also a choice to smoke weed. And both are OK. I may not believe in religion like others do, and I may be celebrating today the best way I know how, but that does NOT make me a bad person, or someone who is blind to reality. I live each day in the way that I choose. That is why God/Buddah/Allah/Flying Spaghetti Monster etc. gave us free will, so that we could make our own decisions about how to live our life. Do not judge someone simply because they are doing something you choose not to do anymore. I don't judge you for leading a life I choose not to live. Religious types always forget that little part. If there is a Jesus or God or whatever, I'm pretty sure His plan for His creations goes beyond what they choose to do on a Wednesday in April, but instead what they do in this life to better it, and for the future creations.

Oh...and for the record, there are WORSE things a person can do than smoke a bowl. Alcohol is perfectly legal, (Jesus drank it)...and it kills millions of people a year. War? Murder? Corruption? THESE are things that should be judged. Not a fucking day in April. So I'm going to change it to #JesusChristandMaryJane. The two go together nicely.

Oh My God We're Back Again

I apologize for once again abandoning this blog. I always think of clever things I want to write about, and then for some reason or another (usually laziness) I just don't...

I understand that this blog started out as a random look at life from two of the most awesome people I know, and in some ways it still is, if Marya ever decides to write again...but we are left with me, and so...Sessions will be still be Sessions, but it will have to be from my point of view, and about the going-ons in my little world. Oh sure, it won't be exciting news that one could find in NY. But I have found that York, PA has its own set of quirks, and the people in it are just if not more worthy of comment.

My recent venture has been to find a solid group of friends to surround myself with so I don't succumb to bashing my head against a wall for fun (for the record, it's not...) That is where my current job has come in. I have succeeded in doing so, and although my heart will always be with those certain persons in NY, the friends I have made here have provided me with so much already. Which leads to another point in why I need to start writing again...

If this blog has taught you anything about me, it is that I love gossip, and the gossip at work is so juicy I have considered starting a gossip girl type blog dedicated to the going-ons of what I will now be referring to as 1087. There are other nicknames I use for the people who work there, and I hope I do not confuse you too much if I ever write about them. But back to the gossip...it's ridiculous. 1087 is like a little town and everyone knows each others' business. Oh it is simply too delicious to handle most of the time. The weird love triangles, and gay rumors, and petty spats, loves it. But this is all for another time. Just wanted to let you know some of the things you might start to see.

Anyway, what I really wanted to write about today was about my goal to find fellow smokers in PA. It has been a very long and arduous task. Coming from a place where it was so openly discussed and traded among my friends to a place where I couldn't tell who did and who didn't (well, that's not completely true, there are some people who I have seen and just "know") has sent me on what I will call a noble quest. This quest has lead me to meet a white gangster who schooled me in 90s rap at 3am, A very attractive electrician with a brain the size of a small pebble, two 19 year olds with whom I had a very long discussion about the pros and cons of eating and passing a plastic bottle through your system vs a glass one, an out-there musician who took me through half of his music library while I pretended to be interested at least a quarter of the way through, and a new friend who knows how to take the wheel while you light a bowl. With that said I have also learned that in PA people smoke in sheds not basements, and PA has so many back roads it is impossible to be found by the cops, and burn cruises are the choice way to smoke. Now, I haven't found someone yet to be a smoking buddy, but I am well on my way. Until then, I think it will be fun to write about my little get togethers with the smokers of York, PA. They are an interesting bunch.

So Sessions is back again, slightly modified, but back nonetheless. As always it shall be filled with quirkiness and thoughtful...err thoughts. Until next time. Peace, love, and sessions.

Graduated Blues

I don't really want to really "dig" in deep on this subject because it makes me sad, but I will simply say this, being an adult is terrible. After receiving the dreaded loan repayment letters the other day, it hit me. This is what adult life comes down to- bill payments, and loan repayments and monetary obligations, and pointless drudgery like the 9-5ers, or two of them. No wonder adults are miserable, this sucks. I know there is some saying that's like life is what you make of it, and ok people...I vow to never let my life pull me down. I may have to do this adult shit because I just don't enjoy federal prison, but fuck being an adult. What is the fucking point? To be a boring ass drone to some ideal that money will make one happy? Nah, I'm ok. I have been truly happy and it was at a point where I had no money to my name, I had to steal food because buying it just wasn't an option. Maybe in some ways I am being naive, that being a degenerate is no way to live a life, and that I am still riding the coat tails of my college life. Yet, there is a big part of me that has always felt that being grown-up is a silly idea. There is no point to leading a life where you are constantly unhappy about it. So fuck it, the "adult" lifestyle is not for me, and I refuse to let my vitality be taken away from me by something so pointless as growing up. Age is just a number anyway.

Sessions Lives!!!!

Yes it is true. The wait is over. Sessions is back. We can stop crying over our sabbatical, and let's just pick up where we left off, shall we?

Where did we leave off? Well...graduation for one, saying goodbye to the greatest city in the world, for two, and thirdly splitting Marya and myself apart. The summer months flew past faster than I could have imagined and made me realize what I had lost since graduating college. How far the afternoons of hanging out, watching movies, being generally awesome, and coming up with posts for this blog seem to be. Where the only worries were unfinished homework and when we were down to our last green nugget. Before, life was about finding things to keep you entertained. Now life is filled with monetary obligations and finding the moola to pay for those obligations. So we have replaced classes with jobs and have tossed irresponsibility out of the window to make way for a straight-edged, adult lifestyle. My dear readers, I must confess. I think it's a load of horse shit.

If it weren't for the disgusting amount of loan money I am forced to pay back, I don't think I would actually give two shits about being a functioning member of society. I quote Marya while watching "Surfer Dude" one afternoon, "I think I would be ok just living in a shack by the beach, and surfing all day." Exactly, my friend. I agree one-hundred percent. Ah, but life has to be difficult, and here we are.

For this reason I am restarting Sessions. It is a chance to get away from those god-awful adult things that seem to be sucking the vitality from me and remember that life is not meant to be taken too seriously. I can still live in that shack by the sea if only through a silly comment about what a twat Kristen Stewart still is, or when a great song comes out that makes me want to dance in a library or something (btw that song is Sexy Bitch by David Guetta ft. Akon...download it now.) Welcome back to Sessions. We promise it will be just as ridiculous as if we had never received those college degrees in the first place.

Oh ps-Marya, please start writing again. Sessions isn't Sessions without you...it's just me talking about how much I love GQ. Miss you.

Chillin

So it's Saturday night and I am sitting at home watching Happy Gilmore. I just wanted to make a quick comment on how I am ok with that.
Maybe it's just me getting on in years, but sometimes staying in on a Saturday night is the most relaxing thing a person can do. This weekend is especially nice since my entire house has gone home for the weekend. So I have this nice house to myself, a comfy couch and hours of weekend tv. Delightful, also a big bravo to the Oxygen network for an excellent line-up today. Bad Girl's Club, Hope Floats, Ever After and then Finding Neverland. I did not see the need to move anywhere today...good job, Oxygen. Excellent Saturday afternoon spent with you today.
Right now I'm hanging with "My Old Lady" and ABC Family, and I am happy as a clam.
I hope that you all are enjoying your Saturday nights in the way that makes you happy, now if you'll excuse me Happy Gilmore is about to get in a fight with Bob Barker.

Oh, I hope you all like the new blog set up...that banner took me hours to do! Photoshop is a fucking mystery to me....

Fuck Normality

Just a thought...

I find it very ironic that Marya mentioned that fear she got when she watched Office Space. I believe I was watching it with her, and freaking out the exact same way. So I have to ask this question, why is that?
What is it about normal office jobs that freak us out so much? Many people go through their lives working in a cubicle leading perfectly respectful lives, and most of them; I would like to believe enjoy being there. So why is it, when I watch something like that, do I want to scream and vomit simultaneously? Ok...so Office Space is a venture from the norm by a long stretch, but it wouldn't be a comedy if people couldn't relate to it. So there must be a sliver of truth to it.

Personally, I can only tell you what bothers me about it by dissecting the movie. Mostly it's the fact that everything in the movie down to the last set detail is bland and dead. Nothing has a life of its own besides the characters who coincidentally feel dead inside. That's a harsh life. Have you ever stared at the sets in that movie? It's terrifying...and those are real places. People work and live in those places, but why? You have probably passed a business park or two with a corporation like Initech, and wondered what was inside, and who drove those nondescript cars in the perfectly paved black parking lot. Office Space just makes me look at these people like some kind of pariah, like they all have some kind of infectious disease that makes them insane enough to get up every day and work at any place similar to Initech.
What about Peter's cookie cutter apartment? Peter is his own person, he is a round and complex character but his apartment is so nonchalant and so pristinely bleak that it makes me wonder how he can even sleep there? Perhaps the most horrifying set in that movie to me was Tom's backyard. His whole house really. It's in one of those developments that spring up out of nowhere. They put them in the middle of fields and they were made by some contractor who wanted a house to look nice, but didn't care to put any personal touches on the design, so the houses all look alike. There are no trees in the yard except for those skinny buy-at-the-store kind that eventually die as soon as it snows, and everyone has the same basic front lawn and high fences in the backyard. There's also that water tower...I don't know what it is about that water tower behind Tom's fence but it scares the crap out of me. Perhaps it's because it's then you know that this little street Tom lives on was a product of cookie cutter development, and fuck with the ambiance...the land was cheap and easy to build on. Plus there is nothing beyond it...no signs of another house, or life for that matter. Just and empty field...and a fence built to block it out. Once again I have to ask myself who chooses to lead this kind of life?
There's also the matter of the people in the movie. Besides Lawrence, everyone in that movie hates their job, and basically their life. The only reason Lawrence does not is because he doesn't actually work in some establishment. He cleans up after it. Joanna is stuck in a place where it may seem fun to work at, but in the end is just the same pain in the ass job that Peter, Mike, Samir and even Milton have to deal with. Don't even get me started with Milton. Milton gets crapped on the most out of anyone in that movie obviously.
I physically cannot watch the birthday cake scene simply because of the injustice of it all. That's not comedy...that's torture. If I were Milton I would punch that stupid Chinese lady with those dumb glasses right in the fucking head she was supposed to pass the cake to Milton the red-head was supposed to pass to the chinese lady and the red-head was supposed to go without any cake. I can't believe that fat bitch told Milton he couldn't have cake...Pass the cake so everyone gets a piece...Fuck that. I would eat that cake in one bite and then eat half of the cake make-up off of that dumb bitch's face. I just ranted about cake for a good five minutes typing this. I apologize...but I hope you're seeing my point. This movie is a horror movie disguised as a comedy.

Anyway, what I am really trying to say is that Milton and Lawrence are the key characters to the whole movie, and Peter is just a better looking pawn to keep the story going. Look at it this way, Milton, fed up with the establishment, burns it down. Lawrence, who wants nothing to do with it, cleans up after it. Peter will be forever grateful to Milton for destroying it, and to Lawrence for helping him forget it. Joanna is even a small voice of reason when she flips it off. Peter will be forever grateful to her because they can relate to each other when they were unhappy in the establishment. They soon discover that by being out of the system, they can finally be happy with just each other.
Now I am not giving a big F-U to the establishment, but is Office Space? Is Office Space trying to show us the harsh reality of it all and what could happen if we all just didn't give a fuck? Or is it pointing out the mundane details of everyone's life and amplifying it to the extreme so that we may look at our own lives and ask if we are happy? I keep asking myself what kind of people choose to lead these lives and I think Peter and Mike explained it best:
[Peter, Michael, and Samir are chatting as they hang around the printer]
Peter Gibbons: Our high school guidance counselor used to ask us what you'd do if you had a million dollars and you didn't have to work. And invariably what you'd say was supposed to be your career. So, if you wanted to fix old cars then you're supposed to be an auto mechanic.
Samir: So what did you say?
Peter Gibbons: I never had an answer. I guess that's why I'm working at Initech.
Michael Bolton: No, you're working at Initech because that question is bullshit to begin with. If everyone listened to her, there'd be no janitors, because no one would clean shit up if they had a million dollars.

So essentially the reason why Office Space scares me so much is because these places do exist. People actually lead lives similar to Peter's world. People live in these houses with no view to anywhere but a vast and empty field. People work at these jobs where by going to it is reliving the worst day of your life every single day. These are normal people! These are people with lives, and families, and hopes and dreams. If I am going to grow up and lead a "normal" life, I want a view to something, and I want my house to say something about me. I don't want to be like everyone else. I don't want to know that the street that I live on is filled with people just like me, who lead the same life as me. It's like that house and that street would steal my identity. And that fucking water tower...would steal my soul. I would want my job to make me happy, and to be somewhere where I could be me, and by being me I could do something worthwhile. Office Space may be a comedy to most, but to me and apparently to Marya, it's scarier than most horror movies I have seen in my lifetime.
This post has become much longer than I intended, but I, too, have started my last semester of college, and just thinking about the future makes me sick. I cannot and will not submit myself to something that will make me feel like everyone else. Call it pipe dreams, or just plain stupidity, but I feel that my talents were not meant to be cubicled, and I was not meant to walk into my backyard and see nothing but a water tower. No, that day is the day I would know I have left the Earth and joined the ranks of hell. No, I am not being over-dramatic...it really would be hell for me.
Anyway, before I make myself completely pessimistic I am going to go live up the last of my college days...have a good weekend everyone.
Peter Gibbons: It's not just about me and my dream of doing nothing. It's about all of us. I don't know what happened to me at that hypnotherapist and, I don't know, maybe it was just shock and it's wearing off now, but when I saw that fat man keel over and die - Michael, we don't have a lot of time on this earth! We weren't meant to spend it this way. Human beings were not meant to sit in little cubicles staring at computer screens all day, filling out useless forms and listening to eight different bosses drone on about about mission statements.
Michael Bolton: I told those fudge-packers I liked Michael Bolton's music.
Peter Gibbons: Oh. That is not right, Michael.

Gotta Love the Crowds

This might sound a little crazy to most people, but I love the holiday shopping season. Especially now that it's a mad dash to the stores because Christmas is in three days. I for one, wait until this time to run out to the store to do my x-mas shopping. The reason for such madness? I love watching the madness. Most of the things I buy for people are always going to be there, so I really don't have to worry about not finding what I wanted to buy people, but I like to go to the most crowded areas of the store and watch the madness ensue. Seriously, go to the electronics department of your local Target, and just watch. People are fucking nuts.

This all started two years ago, I went Christmas shopping on the 22nd, and was looking at CDs when I saw it happen. An Xbox 360 (probably the hardest-to-find gift of 2006) was just sitting on the bottom shelf of the video game case. Two ladies saw it at exactly the same time on opposite sides of the electronics department. Now I have to remind you that this was the 22nd of December, the store was packed...there were literally people everywhere around me. So from the two sides of the store these women come bounding through, pushing people out of their way I think one shoved a small child..it was like watching the parting of the seas. So all these people are wondering why they are getting pushed by this crazy broad when they see what they're going after, so other people start to follow ensuite...So now there is a small mob booking it for this glass case. They all get there at the same time and start pushing each other to get to the front, smashing each other against the case. The one lady who first saw it gets thrown to the back by this big guy and all the while the other lady is smashed against this case screaming at the top of her lungs for an associate to come and help her. Then other people start shouting for an associate and they have yelling matches to see who can yell the loudest so an associate will help them first.

So an associate finally sees all of this and thinks a fight has broken out so he calls security. He goes in and tries to diffuse the situation but everyone is claiming they got there first and "I want the fucking xbox" I shit you not...So security comes and looks where the fight is, and all they see is this group of people yelling at this poor associate who looked like he was still in HS. So security goes and like secures the parameter all the while this woman has pressed herself against the glass case and is still screaming for this associate to help her get the xbox 360. This is my favorite part. The guy goes to the case with this look on his face like "You have got to be fucking kidding me"He opens the case and pulls out the box and yells so that everyone in the department can hear him, "This box is empty! It is for display purposes only, if you had taken the time to read the sign on the case, you would have seen that we have been sold out of x-boxes for two weeks now! I repeat, there are no x-boxes here!" The lady looks up at the case, and turns the brightest shade of red I have ever seen. All the while I am literally pissing my pants with laughter because I had just witnessed a brawl over an empty box, and a sign that could have prevented the entire fiasco. It was like watching a boxing match between lions ringside...So from then on, I decided that if I ever wanted to get fun out of my x-mas shopping I should go towards the end to watch just how crazy people can be.

This leads into another related topic. If Christmas is supposed to be that time of year where we are supposed to forget all that separates us, and put all of our petty bullshit aside and be genuinely nice to each other, why does this still happen? It also just seems to get worse every year. One thing I have noticed since I started observing this kind of human depravity, is that people really don't care about all that when it comes to shopping. The xbox instance for example. Those two ladies were the first people to see it, and so if there was going to be a battle, it should have been between those two ladies, but at least ten people joined in and when the associate got there they all claimed to be the person who saw it first. As I mentioned before one of the women got pushed to the back by some big fat guy...That's not a fair fight at all. Even if there was an xbox360 in that box, she wouldn't have stood a chance...and she was the one who caught it first!

The holidays just make people oblivious to what they are doing to each other. A guy on Long Island died because he was trampled over on black friday at Walmart. Like, how on earth do you not realize that the ground you're running on doesn't feel like ground...it feels like, oh I dunno...a human?!?! That's when I think humanity as a whole is just falling into the toilet. People don't even realize that they are literally killing a man because they have to get those dell computers for 400 bucks.

So who is to blame for all of this? Do you blame the companies for releasing their biggest selling products around the holidays? The stores for not being able to meet the suply and demand of the product? Do you blame the parents who feel the need to get everything on their kid's christmas list no matter what the cost? Personally I feel it's a combination of all those things, and more if you put in other factors, like successful advertising, and buzz about the product, sales prices, personal needs, all that put together makes whatever being sold what it is. So the holiday shopping season becomes this frenzied dash to the store at ungodly times of the morning, sometimes nights before. A guy in my town died from hypothermia because he was waiting on the coldest night in November for Circuit City to open. I think that year HP scanners were being sold for $50. I think this is what Darwin meant when he was talking about survival of the fittest.

So, I think about all of this when I watch these people try to destroy each other over stupid things that in a few months will be obsolete to kids. Believe me, I know. I was a spoiled kid, and my poor parents had to get everything on the list for my brothers and me. I'm a little ashamed because I see what my parents must have gone through to get me something that I didn't touch come April. So then I ask myself, Why do we do it then? Why is it that if we know that people including yourself are willing to kill for this gift, why do we choose to do so? I guess it's all about making other people happy. Then, one has to ask themselves even though it seems we are forgetting what Christmas is all about, are we really? We're doing all of this crazy extreme shopping because we want to make the people we are buying the gifts for, happy. Isn't that what Christmas is about? Giving, not receiving, caring about the feelings of others and not your own? I guess the whole shopping thing is what makes it wrong, but we live in a consumerist society, what would we be if we didn't buy things?

The main point here is that we as a society don't know any other way to treat Christmas than as a huge shopping event. It is only on Christmas when we pause to think of how wonderful it is to be able to appreciate everything that we have. Personally, I think everyone needs to sit down and take a page from Dr. Seuss. How the Grinch Stole Christmas is all based on this whole notion that shopping for presents is the only way to make people happy. I personally, don't believe in the shopping culture that has become our entire society, but I do recognize it's what makes the US what it is. So that's really why I go to watch all of this, because I try to look at it as Americans doing what they do best, shop...Ironically I think the Grinch said it best:

The Grinch: It came without ribbons. It came without tags. It came without packages, boxes, or bags.
Narrator:The the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before.
The Grinch: Maybe Christmas doesn't come from a store. Maybe Christmas...
Narrator: He thought
The Grinch: ...means a little bit more.

So this Christmas, I will keep in mind while I watch others panic through the aisles of the sotre, that Christmas will come with or without presents, and I am greatful that I can shop and be shopped for, because I know I will make someone happy regardless.

Well, now that I have beasically given everyone my view on Christmas as whole...I'm going to end this. I'll leave you with my favorite quote from the Grinch:
The Grinch: MAX. HELP ME... I'm FEELING.

Marya is awsome.

It's true I am. I would like to introduce myself to the blogging world. Hi, sup. Marya is pronounced Mariah (Muh-rye-uh), I'm 21 living on Long Island, originally from Cape Cod, MA. I'm a hippie at heart. I love the whole green thing take that however you'd like recycling and alternative energy or maybe other "green" things ...which ever... I guess both. I'm the moderater I hate when people fight. I truly believe in the peace and love philosophy, and I can usually be seen sporting some kind of peace sign and have a peace tatto on my back. Here is a quick insite into the mystery that is me with a short lists of likes and dislikes.

Likes: the beach, music (classic rock, jam bands, indie and the occasional pop sensation, good rap), peace signs, fashion, pop culture in general, the hills, gossip girl, being awsome, twilight, perezhilton, rob pattison, shia laboeuf, art, sunglasses, a good black pen, facebook and being hilarious with sarah.

Dislikes: mean people, working, going to school, being a marketing major, beyonce, altoids, blue pens, emo music, people who say "hi haters" wtf?, people who need to do unnecessary things to prove themselves (like that chick who has no arms that learned to fly a plane... I mean I don't dislike her personally because of course I've never met her I'm sure she is very nice, but if you have no arms... why do you need to know how to fly a plane? Wouldn't it just be safer for every one else if you didn't fly a plane? I don't care how small minded that makes me sound I don't get it), and myspace.

I am so excited we are blogging, I can't wait to share our insites into life with the great abyss that is the internet!

You just gotta keep livin' man, L-I-V-I-N."
